William R. Thomas

William R. Thomas is an entrepreneur and executive with a broad background in the international energy industry. With over 30 years of experience, he has successfully built, managed and monetized E&P companies in some of the world's most challenging environments. Mr. Thomas currently serves as non-executive director of Vaalco Energy, Inc., a NYSE and LSE listed company which has operated the Etame Marin production license offshore Gabon for over 20 years. Mr. Thomas began his career as a roughneck working on land and marine drilling rigs in Australia, West Texas and Brazil while attending the University of Texas. He has held management and executive positions with Pennzoil International Co., Amoco Corp., and Bankers Trust Company. Beginning in 1992, Mr. Thomas spent over 15 years working in the FSU where he led the growth of several companies including Nations Energy Co. Ltd. In Kazakhstan and the Urals Energy group of companies in Russia. As founder and CEO, he led Urals Energy’s highly successful IPO on the London AIM market in 2005. At the time of his retirement as Chief Executive in April 2007, Urals Energy’s market capitalization was approximately $1.5 billion with 2P reserves of 225 million barrels of liquids and 2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Mr. Thomas graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Economics. In 2011, he was honored as Commencement Speaker for the College of Liberal Arts. He is a founder of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
