Dr Wayne Holmes is an Assistant Professor in Learning Sciences and Innovation, at The Open University (UK), a Research Expert at The Center for Curriculum Redesign (US), and a Visiting Professor at Universidade Federal de Alagoas (Brazil). He has been involved in education and education research for more than 25 years, receiving his PhD in Learning and Technology from the University of Oxford. His research is focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence in education (AIED): how might we use the potential of AI to both enhance and further understand learning, and how do we ensure that the application of AI in education is socially responsible? He led the international workshop Ethics in AIED: Who Cares?, co-authored Artificial Intelligence in Education: Promises and Implications for Teaching and Learning and Personalisiertes Lernen mit digitalen Medien: Ein roter Faden, and has been invited to speak about AIED to audiences in Brazil, China, Germany, Israel, Spain, and the US.
