Mr. Schmitz is a Managing Director with Scotiabank's Energy Group in Houston and in charge of the bank's Oil & Gas portfolio for Latin America & the Caribbean. He has over 17 years of experience in structuring corporate and project finance debt across the region. During his tenor, Mr. Schmitz has lead arranged financings in Latin America and the Caribbean totaling over US$12bn. Prior to joining Scotiabank Mr. Schmitz held several senior assignments with WestLB, including Deputy Head of the Houston Energy Branch and Head of Metals & Mining for the Americas. He holds a master degree in economics from Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria)
