<p><u><strong>Biography:</strong></u></p> <p>Nicholas Elderfield received a PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary (Alberta, Canada) in 2025. His research focused on the development of a new 3D printing process for manufacturing continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic components with high fiber volume fractions (&gt;50%) and low void contents (&lt;2%). Further work included the development and modeling of the world's first 3D printed carbon fiber deployable booms for spacecraft systems.</p> <p><u><strong>About the Laboratory of Engineering Materials at the University of Calgary:</strong></u></p> <p>The Laboratory of Engineering Materials at the University of Calgary is led by Prof. Joanna C.H. Wong with research focused on the processing of high performance fiber-reinforced composite materials.</p>
