Prof. Joy Sumner is the Codirector of the Franco-Australian Centre for Energy Transition (FACET). She holds Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's degrees from the University of Cambridge, focussed on materials science. Her interest in materials performance led to materials degradation research; addressing how the extreme operating environments arising in energy systems impact component life. This includes use of future fuels (biomass, hydrogen, syngas) or alternative working fluids (molten salts, supercritical CO2). She has spent 14 years addressing alloy performance at Cranfield University, including as Head of the Centre for Energy Engineering. Her research and publications, delivered in close collaboration with industry.
