Johan Byskov Svendsen is a geologist with a scientific background dating back to 1997. He holds a PhD in Geochemistry and Statistics, awarded in 2001. Over more than 15 years, he worked in oil and gas exploration and development projects, primarily in the North Sea. His experience includes serving as asset manager for several operated platforms. From 2019 to 2021, he contributed to the development of Carbon Capture and Storage in Denmark. During this period, he helped elevate CCS from an academic niche to a core national climate measure. He led the maturation of Denmark’s first CO₂ storage site, Project Greensand, into the demonstration phase. Following this milestone, he shifted focus toward the decarbonization of maritime transport. He currently serves as Head of Energy System Transition at the Mærsk Mc Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. In this role, he leads multiple Green Corridor projects supporting first movers in global shipping decarbonization.
