Supervisory Special Agent Jerry J. Tavares is the Executive Director of OSAC. SSA Tavares previously served as the DSS Division Director for Physical Security, overseeing the protection of more than 25,000 facilities and diplomatic platforms across 170+ countries. He led the modernization of the Department’s risk management process and the implementation of legislative amendments to the Secure Embassy Construction and Counterterrorism Act. He was Deputy Regional Security Officer (RSO) at U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq: RSO at U.S. Embassy Manama, Bahrain; RSO at U.S. Embassy Vientiane, Laos; and Assistant RSO at U.S. Embassies in Iraq, Colombia, and Afghanistan. In addition to his overseas assignments, SSA Tavares began his career in 2004 as a Special Agent in the DSS Miami Field Office; then served as Agent in Charge with Dignitary Protection. He also served as Branch Chief, Worldwide Protective Services, where he led the contract solicitation, acquisition, and management of a $1.3-billion Task Order, which provided security services for five U.S. State Department compounds in Kabul, Afghanistan. SSA Tavares is a native of Guam and served in Japan, the Philippines, and Egypt during his four years with the U.S. Marine Corps. He is fluent in Spanish, Lao, and Northern Thai, and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Columbus State University.
