Ilhaam Groenewald is one of South Africa’s most accomplished and transformative sports executives. Over a career spanning more than three decades, she has consistently broken barriers in sports administration, governance, and leadership. Currently serving as the Chief Director of Maties Sport at Stellenbosch University, Ilhaam is the first woman to hold such a senior sports leadership position in the South African higher education sector. She is also credited with leading innovation by establishing the first Recreation and Active Lifestyle Unit (RALU) and the Centre for Sport Leadership (CSL) in the higher education environment.
