Dr. Suliman Alshahmy is an academic, practitioner, and entrepreneur with extensive experience in finance, banking, and capital markets. He is currently Assistant Professor of Finance at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, teaching and supervising across financial markets, capital markets, corporate restructuring, and sustainable finance. His research focuses on ESG, sustainable finance, financial markets, and digital assets, with publications on AI-driven sustainable finance instruments, ESG disclosure, and the transition to net zero in oil and gas. Dr Alshahmy is the founder and former CEO of the Libyan Stock Exchange, established in 2004, where he launched electronic trading for the first time in Libya’s history. He also served as Chairman of a leading Libyan bank and was elected President of the Arab Federation of Exchanges (2010–2011). These leadership roles positioned him at the forefront of capital market development and financial sector reform in the region.
