Chris Slootweg (born 1978) is a Dutch chemist and professor at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), specializing in sustainable and circular chemistry. He studied chemistry at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and earned his PhD in 2005. After postdoctoral research at ETH Zürich, he began his academic career at VU Amsterdam before moving to UvA in 2016, where he became a full professor of circular chemistry in 2024. Slootweg’s research focuses on developing circular chemistry—an approach that aims to reuse resources and reduce waste by designing sustainable chemical processes and materials. His work often explores renewable feedstocks, phosphorus recycling, and innovative molecular design to support a more sustainable chemical industry. In addition to academia, he is co-founder and scientific advisor of SusPhos BV, a company that converts phosphate-rich waste into valuable raw materials, bridging science and real-world sustainability solutions
