Chris Birdwell has been working in the credit profession for over 35 years. He recently embarked on an opportunity of a lifetime by writing his own job description and becoming the first Corporate Credit Manager for BG Products, Inc. Prior to this, he was Credit Strategies Manager for Pioneer Balloon Company for over two decades. Having become a noteworthy leader in the Credit, Chris built his brand through his efforts with NACM and ascended to CFDD National Chairmen 2022-2023, launching CFDD Education Track at 126th Credit Congress and overseeing creation and promotion of CFDD’s new tag line & Star Awards. Chris’ leadership pathway includes serving as a board member for NACM National Promotional Products Credit Group for 25 years and holding a multitude of positions including National Chair 2003-2005. Locally, Chris has been instrumental in assisting three not for profit companies achieve 501c3 exempt status. In 2016, Chris served 3 years as president for NACM’s Wichita chapter of Credit and Financial Development Division (CFDD). During his tenure, the Wichita chapter grew 24% and earned national awards all three years. In 2019 Chris received the special “Star Award” and “Key to Success” for his accomplishment as Area Director for championing the launch of Oklahoma City CFDD chapter and for Wichita chapter’s excellence while serving as president. Chris’ passion to bring greater awareness to the Wichita’s local credit and finance community enabled him to be the conduit for three Law of Credit Management badges launched by Wichita State University’s Workforce, Professional & Community Education program. Like many credit professionals, Chris fell into the profession by chance. However, with mentoring he quickly embraced the fact that this could be a career instead of a job. Today, Chris has accepted this challenge and now advocates the value that credit professionals provide to their respective companies. He believes it is critical that credit teams are recognized as profit centers that maximize sales and mitigate risk, while protecting one of the largest corporate assets.
