Zoe is a Gamilaroi and Malaysian Chinese woman who grew up on Kombumerri Country in south-east Queensland. She has a background in statutory planning within NSW local government. To diversify her knowledge and contribute to better outcomes for Country, Zoe relocated to Aotearoa New Zealand to pursue a Master of Disaster Risk and Resilience. Zoe is now a Research Fellow in the National Indigenous Disaster Resilience program at Monash University, where she co-leads the First Nations women, cultural fire knowledge, wellbeing and memory project (AUSWTREX) and the Colonial Load and Cultural Conflict project. In the context of this research, she participated in the AUSWTREX program as a full participant while also undertaking a researcher role. This dual position enabled a deeper understanding of the program, informing both data collection and interpretation. Zoe is passionate about supporting work that strengthens the safety and wellbeing of Country, communities, and our cultures, with a particular focus on strengthening First Nations leadership, representation and wellbeing in Australia's emergency management and land management workforce.
