Valeria Garbin is Professor of Flow and Dynamics of Soft Matter at Delft University of Technology, where she heads the section Transport Phenomena and Reaction Engineering. Her research focuses on microscale transport phenomena in soft matter, combining micromanipulation and high-resolution imaging techniques for precision measurements of transport, interactions and mechanics. Her lab developed the use of acoustic bubble dynamics to probe the deformation and rheology of complex fluids; and particle-stabilized, ultrasound-driven microbubbles to study multiphase systems under extreme deformation. A current focus of her lab is the flow physics of multicomponent droplets stabilized by particles. Garbin obtained her MSc in Physics from the University of Padova and her PhD from the University of Trieste, Italy. She was a Rubicon fellow in the Physics of Fluids group at the University of Twente, and a postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania. Garbin has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant, ERC Proof of Concept Grant and an NWO Vici grant. She was the recipient of the McBain medal and the Soft Matter Lectureship.
