Lieutenant Colonel Timothy D. Otten serves as the first U.S. Defense Innovation Unit Embedded Liaison to the United Kingdom. His mission: connect innovation, technology, and defense across the Atlantic. Working with the UK Ministry of Defence, Parliament, and industry leaders, he helps accelerate collaboration on next-generation capabilities.<br /> A Marine Corps officer and former AV-8B Harrier pilot, LtCol Otten has deployed to Afghanistan and the Western Pacific, led integration efforts for the F-35, and advanced NATO aviation cooperation across Europe. His career spans operational aviation, multinational exercises, and diplomatic assignments, including support to U.S. Defense Attaché Offices in Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.<br /> He joined the Defense Innovation Unit in October 2024, bringing nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of aviation, interoperability, and international defense relations.<br /> LtCol Otten holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Tufts University’s Fletcher School and has completed advanced studies with the U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
