Steven joined the PSR in September 2019 as a Payments Technical Specialist. He provides expert insight and guidance on a range of projects, supporting our objectives of promoting competition, innovation, and the interests of the people and organisations who use payment systems. Steven has a wealth of knowledge and experience in cards, payments and banking, with over 19 years’ experience in the industry. Before joining the PSR, Steven was lead Principal Payments Consultant at Huntswood. He had previously held senior payments-related roles at Barclays Bank, MasterCard, TSYS International, Lloyds Banking Group and Nationwide Building Society. His areas of expertise include card payments (merchant acquiring and issuing), payments operations and strategy, PSD2/Open Banking, Wire Transfer Regulation, Strong Customer Authentication, FCA authorisation and application, payments risk and compliance, regulatory management, and UK and European payments legislation. Between October 2017 and December 2018 Steven supported the Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE), leading and advising on its delivery of a dispute management system for the new Open Banking ecosystem. Between 2016 and 2017 Steven was Business Owner and Compliance Lead for the PSD2 Delivery Project at Nationwide Building Society, and represented Nationwide on the Open Banking Steering Committee during its set up stage. At Lloyds, Steven was Compliance and Regulatory lead for its Card Acquiring and Commercial Cards business, with responsibility for scheme engagement and compliance, PCI DSS, regulatory analysis and delivery. Steven has in-depth knowledge of payment operations in the UK and internationally. He’s worked extensively with multi-currency solutions and systems, and has been involved in many new payments deliverables across Europe.
