Stan Caldwell serves as Director of the SMART Grants Program at the US Department of Transportation, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology. He has a master’s degree in public policy and management from the University of Pittsburgh. Previously Stan was Executive Director of the Traffic21 Institute and affiliated University Transportation Centers at Carnegie Mellon University. There he conducted research in emerging transportation technologies and industry trends, taught graduate courses in intelligent transportation systems, and curated the industry-recognized Smart Transportation Dispatch online newsletter. Prior to CMU Stan was a senior aide to US Senators Arlen Specter and Rick Santorum from Pennsylvania.
