Stamatis Kiakidis started his academic life in University of Thessaly in Greece, with a combined bachelor and master degree in mechanical engineering, conducting his thesis on buckling of offshore pipelines. During these years he was actively involved at the university’s formula student team, serving as the head of the suspension, steering and brake system department. Subsequently, he acquired a second master degree on materials science and engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. His thesis focused on wire+arc additive manufacturing, a novel 3D printing technique capable of producing large metallic components. Since his graduation in 2017, he works as a principal researcher at the R&D department of TATA Steel in the Netherlands at the Deformation & Mechanics group. His work lays on different fields, involving internal stresses and expansion of work rolls, post-buckling behaviour of steel strips with finite elements analysis, and material properties prediction using machine learning methods.
