Robert Gummer is a seasoned security and intelligence leader with more than 27 years of experience spanning military service, federal intelligence, private sector and most recently major metropolitan transit. His career began as an Army intelligence analyst, serving for eight years, with deployments to Kosovo and Iraq. Following military service, he taught military intelligence for the Department of Defense for over four years before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as an intelligence analyst. During his FBI tenure, he managed intelligence teams that supported violent gang and drug trafficking investigations, counterterrorism efforts, and assessed the health and effectiveness of intelligence programs. He ultimately served as the Senior National Intelligence Officer of Science and Technology, where he became a trusted expert on emerging technologies and their impact on investigations, operational safety and national security. In 2018, the National Football League (NFL) recruited Mr. Gummer to build its General Security Operation Center from the ground up. He developed a comprehensive intelligence program to identify threats, guide executive decision-making, and strengthen business continuity and emergency preparedness – work that proved pivotal throughout four NFL seasons, included during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Gummer joined LA Metro in 2022 as a Deputy Executive Officer and was soon promoted to Senior Executive Officer before being appointed Deputy Chief of Mero’s Public Safety Department. In that capacity, he oversees the full spectrum of Metro’s security programs including Physical Security, Emergency Management, Data Analytics, Transit Security, Finance, Contract Security, Compliance, and Special Projects. He is a recent recipient of LA Metro’s CEO Award for excellence in leadership, engagement, and innovation.
