Qiongyu HUANG

Qiongyu Huang, Ph.D., is the Roger and Molly Sit Giant Panda Biologist at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. A spatial ecologist and physical geographer, he integrates GIS, satellite imagery, particularly  LiDAR data to guide habitat mapping and conservation for flagship species, including giant pandas. His panda research spans climate change impact on giant panda habitat, reserve effectiveness evaluation, habitat selection, and conservation policy. Recent collaborations examine how warming alters bamboo ecology, and bamboo forest mapping leveraging remote sensing data. He also builds capacity through training at giant panda research facilities in China.
