Nic Criticos is a qualified architect with a degree in Architecture from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and over 25 years of experience across retail architecture, commercial design, hospitality, and immersive brand environments. His work explores the intersection of behavioural psychology, experiential design, and the future of physical retail. He has worked across the Woolworths Group in fashion, beauty, home, and food retail, as well as internationally with iconic department store David Jones, where he led the creative direction for the transformation of the brand’s luxury 11-storey flagship development in Sydney. Prior to this, Nic worked in private practice as a director of an interior architecture firm and across a number of architectural practices in South Africa. Nic has held multiple leadership roles including Creative Director and Head of Store Design, and currently manages the Fashion, Beauty and Home design portfolio at Woolworths South Africa. Recent projects include the Tyger-Valley “Store of the Future” concept and a number of future-focused strategic retail initiatives. He travels regularly, allowing him to benchmark global retail and hospitality trends and continuously inspire future thinking in an ever-evolving retail landscape. He has contributed to retail and design platforms, spoken on podcasts, and assisted with lecturing and external examinations at the University of Pretoria. Outside of work, Nic is inspired by travelling with his family, music, architecture, contemporary culture, and design, and is a passionate cyclist and yogi.
