Min Xie has been a Chair Professor of Industrial Engineering at City University of Hong Kong since 2011. Before that, he was a full professor at the National University of Singapore. Prof. Xie began his studies at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1978 and had the opportunity to move to Sweden in 1979 to complete his undergraduate education. He earned a direct Master of Science from the Royal Institute of Technology in 1984 and a PhD from Linköping University, Sweden, in 1987. Prof. Xie has conducted extensive research in industrial and systems engineering, focusing on quality and reliability engineering as well as industrial statistics. He has published over 300 journal articles and authored 10 books. He has successfully completed numerous projects funded by both government and industry. He has supervised more than 70 PhD students, many of whom are now working in academia or industry across various continents. From 2015 to 2018, Prof. Xie served as Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and has been an editor or editorial board member for over 10 leading international journals. He was elected a Fellow of the IEEE in 2005 and a member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) in 2010. In 2022, he was inducted into the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prof. Xie has also held distinguished visiting professorships at Tsinghua University and served as a guest professor at Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He has served as Vice-President (Asian Region) of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) and Chair of the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS) Fellow Evaluation Committee. Additionally, he is a Vice-President of the USTC Hong Kong Alumni Association and a board member of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Sweden.
