Director for Hydrogen, CCUS and Synthetic Fuels, Arup · Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) · company speakers →

Marius Holst has been working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) for over 10 years in the field of hydrogen technologies. Even during his studies in Renewable Energy Systems, he developed a passion for innovative energy solutions. In the hydrogen sector, he has specialized in the modeling and simulation of hydrogen systems. In the early years of his career, Mr. Holst focused on the modeling of hydrogen refueling stations and gas networks, where he developed creative approaches to integrate hydrogen into existing infrastructures. Additionally, he has worked extensively on the waste heat utilization of electrolysis systems to enhance the efficiency of hydrogen production. In recent years, he has led projects on offshore hydrogen production and the development of hydrogen import solutions. Currently, his focus lies on techno-economic analyses and system optimizations of hydrogen production facilities, as well as the entire value chain for hydrogen imports. Through his work, he significantly contributes to understanding and addressing the economic feasibility and technical challenges of hydrogen utilization. He currently leads the research group 'Hydrogen Infrastructure and Technical System Analysis' at Fraunhofer ISE, advocating for sustainable hydrogen solutions to advance the energy transition.
