Karen Thorne

Karen Thorne, a founder and current Station Manager of Cape Town TV, studied Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University in the 1980s. She was active in the anti-apartheid movement and, in the 1990s, worked to democratize film and television as National Coordinator of FAWO. Thorne helped launch the Open Window Network, advocating for community TV. She co-directed AMAC and led efforts to secure a community TV license for Cape Town TV, which launched in 2006.
