After completing a PhD in robotics for inspection in hazardous environments at the French Atomic Energy Commission, Juan Miguel joined EDF four years ago. He currently works as a robotics engineer in the nuclear division, focusing on dismantling, decommissioning and waste management. He has worked on various projects within EDF's permanently shut down power plants, preparing for the future dismantling of areas that are challenging to access and have high radiation levels, where the use of robots is unavoidable. He collaborates with the EDF R&D department, EDF subsidiaries and research institutes such as the Jules Verne Technology and Research Institute and the CEA's Interactive Robotics department on these projects. He believes that robotics is essential not only in the nuclear sector for protecting workers from hazardous environments, but also for improving working conditions and productivity.
