Joe Griffin is a proud Awabakal man from the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie region of New South Wales, with over 15 years’ firefighting experience in Fire and Rescue NSW and has worked across operational, communications, and organisational development roles. Joe is a strong advocate for Indigenous employment, cultural capability, and workforce development within the emergency management sector. As Fire and Rescue NSW Senior Aboriginal Organisational Development Advisor and interim coordinator of the Indigenous Fire and Rescue Employment Strategy (IFARES), he has supported initiatives that strengthen the recruitment, development, and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander firefighters. He is passionate about embedding First Nations knowledge, leadership, and lived experience into modern emergency management practice, and is committed to fostering culturally safe environments while strengthening relationships between Fire and Rescue NSW and Aboriginal communities across New South Wales.
