Hélène Chartier is the Director of Urban Planning and Design at C40 Cities, where she leads efforts to help cities accelerate the adoption of sustainable and resilient urban planning policies, design practices, and low-carbon built-environment solutions. Her team oversees several flagship initiatives, including the C40 Land Use Planning Network and the C40–UN-Habitat Urban Planning Accelerator, which support cities in integrating climate targets into their masterplans and land-use policies; the Green & Thriving Neighbourhoods programme, which translates the 15-minute-city concept into real-world, low-carbon and inclusive neighbourhood regeneration projects; and Reinventing Cities, a global competition driving sustainable urban development and low-carbon construction while mobilising businesses, academia, and youth to accelerate sustainable urban transformation. Before joining C40, Hélène served as an advisor to the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, and worked with Apur, the Paris Urbanism Agency, as well as the global consultancy Arup. She holds a master’s degree in science and engineering from École Centrale. Over the past 15 years, she has lived and worked in Paris, London, and New York.
