An environmental engineer who is passionate about recycling and waste minimisation, Geri is currently working as Senior Environmental Engineer-Waste and Resource Recovery at SMEC. She has over a decade of experience in the areas of waste and resource recovery (WRR), sustainability, and circular economy. Her recent projects at SMEC include leading statewide assessments for biomethane and landfill gas emissions for the Victorian government, preparation of EPA permission application reports and environmental assessments for clients across the WRR and water sectors, project managing landfill gas flaring trials at council legacy landfill sites, and development of WRR/circular economy strategies for local government. Previous to SMEC Geri spent 6 years working in the Victorian public sector through various roles at Sustainability Victoria (SV) and Recycling Victoria (RV). This included leading the delivery of small-to-large scale WRR infrastructure grants across the State, as well as being the organics technical lead for the development of Victoria’s new 30-year Victorian Recycling Infrastructure Plan ‘VRIP’. Geri also has direct experience working in council’s waste department supporting operations and environmental compliance of council owned transfer stations/resource recovery centres and landfills.
