Dylan Valley is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and lecturer at the Centre for Film and Media Studies at the University of Cape Town. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 2013, he received a Pulitzer Fellowship from the University of Southern California, where he completed his Master’s in Specialized Journalism. Dylan has directed several acclaimed documentaries for South African and international audiences, including Afrikaaps (2010) and The Uprising of Hangberg (2010), as well as two films for Al Jazeera Arabic. His groundbreaking virtual reality documentary Azibuye – The Occupation premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020. That same year, he served on the Frontlight selection committee for the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). His most recent film, No Place But Here, premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in 2023 and has since screened at festivals globally.
