Dr Tom McDonald is a Reader in Sustainable Materials at the University of Manchester, jointly appointed in the Departments of Materials and Chemistry. His research focuses on sustainable colloids, polymers, and plastics, with current projects tackling plastic recycling, environmental nanoplastics, and the development of circular materials. Tom leads the Chemical Materials Design area at the Henry Royce Institute and serves as Head of Environmental Sustainability for the School of Natural Sciences. He collaborates extensively with industry and has been awarded over £10 million in research funding. Tom has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers.
