Dr Carmen M. López is a Senior Scientist in the Electrochemistry Group at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) with more than 25 years of professional experience including 13+ years in Lithium-based batteries and electrochemistry. She specialises in post-mortem/post-test analysis of commercial cells and the development of in-situ/in-operando methods for battery metrology. She has a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Purdue University, USA, where she specialized in non-aqueous electrochemistry and photocatalysis; had post-doctoral appointments from Argonne National Laboratory, USA, where she initiated the research in metallic lithium electrodes for Advanced Batteries for Transportation, and at the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research, ZSW, Germany, where she worked on post-mortem analysis of commercial Li-ion batteries. Additionally, she was part of the team in charge of lab commissioning and program development at CICEnergingune, Spain, where she led the Metal-Air Battery Program, and has contributed to lab commissioning and research program initiation in Li-Ion and Li-S batteries, as a Senior Scientist, in the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, QEERI, Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar. In her spare time, Dr. López is a freelance technical writer who also writes fiction and blogs.
