Devina Hogan

Director of Student Engagement · Alcorn State University · company speakers →

Devina Hogan represented Alcorn State University well with her latest presentation on student leadership. Hogan, director of Student Engagement, was one of the presenters at the Association for Programming and Campus Activities South Central Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas September 17 through 20. The name of her presentation was “Kill the Noise” (Blocking Out Negativity), in which she gave tips to students on how to be effective leaders among their peers. “As student leaders, you cannot make everyone happy and you cannot make your peers get involved if they don’t want too,” said Hogan. “When you exert all of your energy into planning and implementing activities, some of your peers will talk down on your efforts. When that happens, block out the negativity and turn those so called failures into opportunities to reach a successful outcome.” Hogan also informed the students about using bad situations as tools for positive development. “I also told the students that life is like photography. You use the negatives to develop. I left them with tools to transform their way of thinking and how to embrace anything that is thrown at them. It was an awesome session.”
