Dr. Cord-Henrich Lefhalm is a seasoned nuclear industry executive with over two decades of experience across international nuclear energy development, decommissioning strategies, and regulatory transformation. Currently, he leads a specialized Task Force, launched in early 2025, dedicated to exploring new applications for RWE’s decommissioned nuclear power plants and redeploying their highly skilled workforce toward future-oriented technologies. A physicist and engineer by training, Cord has held numerous leadership roles within RWE Nuclear GmbH, where he oversaw the strategic coordination and operational excellence of multi-billion-euro nuclear decommissioning programs. His management contributions have shaped leaner, more efficient dismantling operations across several nuclear sites in Germany. Cord’s vision reaches far beyond dismantling. His long-term goal is to see the first megawatt-hour of fusion energy produced at the iconic Biblis site. In pursuit of this goal, he collaborates closely with startups and universities to develop a concept of a research campus for laserfusion to reuse existing nuclear assets and turn them into demonstration facilities needed on the way to a commercial fusion power plant.
