Mrs. Laila Odiņa is the Chairwoman of the Board and Aerodrome Accountable Manager of RIX Riga Airport since 2020. Under her leadership Riga Airport has crafted an ambitious development strategy, aiming to become a Northern European air traffic hub and a climate-neutral airport, unveiling new terminal and RIX Airport City projects, alongside a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy. An aviation professional since 1995, Laila Odina holds degrees in business and aviation transport management. Previously she served on the Airport’s Supervisory Board and held CEO and COO positions at the Latvian national airline airBaltic, UTair Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines, focusing on strategic and commercial planning, operational and personnel management, as well as development and implementation of procedures and operating standards to reach the financial, commercial, quality and safety objectives of companies. In 2024, Laila was elected as a member of the ACI Europe Board.

Susanne Kruppa is a Senior Product Manager at Smiths Detection, specialising in hold baggage screening with over 15 years of experience in aviation security. Known for introducing one of today’s leading HBS screening systems, she combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong leadership. At Smiths Detection, she plays a central role in aligning product development with the evolving needs of airports and security stakeholders worldwide. Her sharp understanding of customer challenges, operational environments, and regulatory requirements drives impactful solutions across the sector. With her proven management skills and market insight, she is a trusted leader shaping the direction of aviation security technologies.

Hatem Oueslati is an industrial and aeronautical engineer who graduated from the National Engineering School of Tunis and the National School of Civil Aviation in Toulouse in 2002. He holds two Master’s degrees—one in Aeronautical Operations and Air Traffic Management, and another in Mathematics (Operational Research). Hatem has held senior positions for 11 years at the Civil Aviation Authority of Tunisia, notably serving as Chief of the Air Navigation and Aerodromes Department. In June 2013, he joined the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Headquarters in Montréal, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of technical cooperation projects across Europe and the Middle East. Hatem is a certified ICAO auditor and instructor. Since February 2022, he has been serving as the Regional Officer in charge of Aerodromes and Ground Aids at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office in Paris.

Thorben is Executive Vice President of the business lines and Chief Technology Officer. Having started his career in RnD for the broadcasting industry, and later for finance software, Thorben developed his first airport software in 1997. Within ADB SAFEGATE, Thorben started as the technical lead for the smart metering businesses before the acquisition of LUCEBIT by ADB, and then leading ADB operations (project management, system engineering, service and production) for Central & Eastern Europe until the 2016 merger with Safegate when he became head of global service for ADB SAFEGATE. In 2020 he took over responsibility for the Gate business line and later Airport Systems, and in 2023 his role was expanded to all Airfield business lines, the international Weather team and Service to streamline efforts towards Airside 4.0. Thorben has a master’s degree in computer science and a PhD from a data mining and information system chair of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany.

Denise Farese is a Senior Aviation Consultant at To70 Aviation, with ten years of experience in developing airport master plans and optimizing infrastructure. Specializing in operational efficiency, she assists management companies in strategic development and has a proven track record in international projects. Her expertise spans master planning, investment strategies, and environmental sustainability studies for airports and government agencies, ensuring long-term success through resilient and sustainable infrastructural solutions.

Tomaso is an ESG expert. After experience as a civil engineer in building design, he joined Bologna Airport in 2006 in the initial role of environmental manager. Over the years, his technical competence has grown to embrace all ESG topics in the role of sustainability manager. Tomaso is also a member and chairman of the ACI Europe Environment Strategy Committee.

Paolo Deforza is the Chief Sustainability Officer / Head of the Environmental Affairs Unit at SACBO — the company that manages Milan Bergamo “Il Caravaggio” Airport. In this role he leads the airport’s environmental and sustainability strategy, focusing on integrating environmental considerations into airport infrastructure and operations, including energy efficiency, air quality, water management and long-term planning. With more than a decade and a half of experience in environmental management for transport infrastructures, Paolo has represented Milan Bergamo Airport at international industry events and conferences on airport sustainability and resilience. He has provided interviews and contributed to industry publications about SACBO’s sustainability roadmap and initiatives (for example SACBO’s “bike-friendly” and multimodal mobility efforts), and has participated on panels addressing strategic long-term planning for sustainable airports. Paolo is also active in applied research and has co-authored publications related to airport and transport planning, reflecting a blend of practical airport environmental management and engagement with academic and professional communities.

Laura has been working in the airport sector for three years, focusing on sustainability reporting and compliance as well as ESG data analysis. She has developed a solid background in Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) topics through studies in Business Administration – Tourism Management and advanced training in social and environmental responsibility, with particular attention to designing sustainable strategies and monitoring environmental and social performance. Her experience combines technical expertise and a strong commitment to sustainability, contributing to the development of responsible strategies and initiatives within the organization.

Mario Peiker is a civil engineer and internationally recognised asphalt technologist with a special focus on Formula 1 and MotoGP race tracks as well as automotive proving grounds. Born in 1981, he began his career with an apprenticeship as a building materials tester for asphalt and bitumen before going on to complete a degree in civil engineering at the University of Koblenz. He received several awards for his scientific thesis on the Formula 1 track in Abu Dhabi and a MotoGP track in Spain. He deepened his technical knowledge of asphalt and bitumen by completing a certificate course in asphalt technology held by the German Asphalt Association (DAV) at the Ruhr University in Bochum. He is actively involved in expert committees of the German Research Association for Road and Traffic Engineering (FGSV e.V.) and heads the working group for non-destructive asphalt testing. He is also a member of the testing procedures working committee. Since 2020, he has been a publicly appointed expert on water-polluting substances. It was at an early stage in his career that Mario Peiker specialised in the challenging field of asphalt technology implementation planning, testing and construction supervision of asphalt surfaces under extreme conditions. From 2009, he worked as a project engineer on international construction sites for an engineering firm – later to become Hart Consult International GmbH – and his work in the last 20 years has also included more than 80 high-performance F1 race tracks and proving grounds worldwide. Since 2018, he has been technical director and managing partner at Hart Consult International GmbH. In this role, he leads a team of engineers and technicians and is responsible worldwide for the professional and cost-effective renovation planning, construction supervision and quality assurance of asphalt pavements for race tracks and proving grounds for automobile manufacturers. The core task of the Hart Consult International GmbH team is to ensure that the road surfaces can withstand the extreme stresses of high-speed driving, braking and steering manoeuvres over long periods of time, or that the surfaces comply with globally applicable ISO standards. His work includes advising on the selection of raw materials and their production, optimising material formulations and mix production, and monitoring paving quality on site – often under considerable time pressure to ensure that new tracks or conversions are ready on time for racing series or vehicle tests and to minimise closure times. In addition, his focus in recent years has been on further developing asphalt mix designs and paving processes with a view to achieving a more positive environmental balance and reducing the ecological footprint. At the same time, he is co-managing director of IBQ Ingenieur GmbH and deputy head of testing at the Institut für Baustoff-Qualitätssicherung GmbH, one of Germany’s largest independent building materials testing laboratories. His work combines precision, innovation and a passion for asphalt. Mario Peiker’s goal is to create asphalt road surfaces that can withstand the highest loads while combining safety, durability and ecological aspects.

He leads the office's work in airport planning, sustainability, and innovation, and coordinated To70 Europe’s R&D. Recently, he led the development of the Airport National Plan for the Italian Civil Aviation Authority.
