Holger Hübner wurde am 27. Juli 1966 in der Kreisstadt Itzehoe bei Wacken geboren. Dass er als Mitgründer des größten Metal-Festivals der Welt in die Musikgeschichte eingehen wird, wagen er und Thomas Jensen zu Beginn der Neunziger noch nicht einmal zu träumen. Doch die beiden Metalheads sind jung und haben Bock auf einen Neuanfang: Mit dem Wacken Open Air wagen sie den Schritt in ein völlig neues Geschäftsfeld – zu der Zeit funktioniert alles nur nach dem Motto „Learning by doing“! Stück für Stück bauen die beiden ihr kleines Festival zu einem Mega-Event aus, mit viel Einsatz rund um die Uhr, kaufmännischem Geschick und Weitblick, aber vor allem mit Liebe und Herz für die Sache, denn beide sind Metal-Fans durch und durch. So tritt Hübner damals im Paket mit Thomas Band Skyline als DJ auf: Wenn „DJ Hüby“ gerade auflegt, feiert die Band und wenn die Musiker auf der Bühne stehen, hat er im Publikum und am Tresen seinen Spaß. Diese freundschaftliche Energie ist es, die sich auch auf ihr Festival überträgt. Von Fans für Fans: Alles für die Community! Auch nach diversen Rückschlägen in den 90er Jahren galt: „Mund abwischen und weitermachen“ bzw. "Wer hinfällt, muss auch wieder aufstehen“! Das ist der Leitsatz, an dem sich das Duo immer wieder orientiert und den die beiden leben. Aber auch Hübners vorherige Ausbildung zum Industriekaufmann erweist sich als durchaus nützlich. Er weiß, wie die Geschäftswelt funktioniert und lässt sein Know-how und Netzwerk in den Aufbau des Wacken Open Airs einfließen. Darüber hinaus nutzt er den Kopierer im Büro seines damaligen Arbeitgebers, um Flyer, Tickets und Poster für das Festival zu fertigen und um den Fuhrpark sowie Telefon und Fax zu nutzen. So wird über die Jahre aus einer Kneipenidee eine Veranstaltung der Superlative. Heute reisen für das Wacken Open Air jährlich 85.000 Fans aus über 90 Nationen nach Schleswig-Holstein ins kleine „gallische“ Dorf Wacken. Holger Hübner und sein Partner Thomas Jensen beschäftigen als Geschäftsführer der veranstaltenden WOA Festival GmbH aktuell mehr als 100 Angestellte sowie während der Wacken Zeit bis zu 5000 Mitarbeiter!

Das SUMMER BREEZE beherbergt jeden August 50.000 Menschen pro Tag – sie alle haben eine Meinung, Wünsche und Kritik, die gehört werden wollen. An unserer Branche schätzt Alex besonders, dass sie aus vielen kreativen Köpfen besteht und für viele ihre Arbeit eine echte Herzensangelegenheit ist. / Alex has been part of the music industry since 2007 and – like so many others – found his way into it through the DIY spirit of his youth, organizing shows, making music, and promoting bands. After several years working in the label environment, he was drawn to the exciting world of festivals.
