Chris Mundell is Technical Director within AtkinsRealis’ Transportation business. He has spent most of his career involved with asset management of bridge structures, including iconic suspension bridges such as the Forth Road, Humber and M48 Severn Bridges, and has most recently been involved with National Highways looking at new technologies to non-intrusively determine structural condition within concrete bridges.

John Armitage is a Technical Director at Ramboll in Southampton, and Co-Lead of Ramboll’s Global Civil Structures Service Line. He has worked on new bridges throughout Scotland and the UK during 29 years at Ramboll.

Educated at Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities, Hazel has been immersed in maintenance, renewal and asset management of Highway structures for over 30 years, 18 years of this with Transport Scotland. Previous experience with Cumbria County Council and Capita Symonds in inspection, design and maintenance followed a PhD in ‘Temperature Effects in Concrete Box Girder Bridges’ and bridge design, inspection and assessment for Mott MacDonald. In Transport Scotland, Hazel leads a team of 17 staff managing the inspection, maintenance and improvement of Scottish Trunk Road structures. Hazel is also the current Chair of the UK Bridges Board.

Stuart is responsible for a team who undertake the management and maintenance of the Councils road bridge and roadside wall assets. A Chartered Civil Engineer with a background in engineering consultancy before moving to Local Authority.

Walid Salhab is an internationally award winning filmmaker and Lecturer in Media Practice at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. His viral short ' Kinetic Edinburgh II' amassed over 8 million views, while his documentation of The Kelpies construction was showcased globally. His latest AI-enhanced project brings the Forth Rail Bridge to life. His work has featured at Cannes and on BBC, STV, and global platforms, with previous films like Avaritia and Bra-et Al Rouh earning multiple festival honors. Born in Tripoli, Lebanon, Walid draws on personal history and craft to highlight stories of identity, and resilience. He continues to push visual boundaries through narrative driven, technically ambitious short films shared widely across social media and international festivals.

Ben founded Moxon Architects in 2004, growing it into a dynamic, cross-disciplinary studio working on projects across the UK and overseas. Working at the intersection of architecture, craft and engineering, Ben is interested in how landscape and heritage can inform design, and how architects can integrate circularity into new schemes. He has built a reputation for technical achievement and aesthetic versatility and is well known for fostering an inquisitive and collaborative design process. With strategic and design oversight across all projects, his work always represents a bespoke response to client aspirations, user needs, technical requirements and geographical context. Ben’s particular expertise lies in creating projects that respond to and enhance their surroundings. Working across multiple sectors, from hospitality to public infrastructure, he works with clients including Hauser & Wirth, HS2 and Transport Scotland. Ben lectures at universities across Europe and is an external examiner at University of Dundee.

Brian is Mott MacDonald’s technical lead for bridges in the UK. He acts as a design director on major multi-disciplinary schemes such as HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail, and the Ordsall Chord, as well as smaller, complex projects. He has been the chair of the Net Zero Bridges Group since 2021, growing the organisation to over 40 member firms. He is an active advocate for decarbonising the work of bridge engineers, designers, and owners.

Bridge Engineer specialising in Local Authority Structures management, with experience in a range of consultancy and contracting roles in PBA, and across Ringway contracts including South West Highways, Island Roads, Hounslow Highways and NH East M&R. Callum now works as Asset Lead - Structures, at Egis in the UK. Callum is am a member of Toastmasters International, an organisation designed to help the development of public speaking and leadership skills, and am currently serving as Area Director, responsible for 7 clubs in the Eastern region. He is passionate about promoting the importance of public speaking and helping others to unlock their potential.

A chartered engineer with 18 years’ experience in bridge inspection, assessment, planning, design, optimisation, Project Management, approvals, and delivery. Colin has inspection and assessment experience on all major types of bridge, over a large range of spans, materials, ages, and designs. He has coordinated and managed multiple bridge inspection and assessment packages for various clients. With an early career split between office and site, this has led to a broad range of skills and expertise. Now Team Lead in the Mott MacDonald Glasgow Bridges team.

Jane leads innovation at FoodTech Inc., focusing on sustainable food solutions.

John is WSP’s structures asset management lead. His work sits at the intersection of civil engineering, data science and asset management. He is regularly commissioned to provide expert advice to infrastructure owners on the management of their structural assets at tactical and strategic levels. He’s a chartered civil engineer with over ten years’ experience in the design and assessment of bridge structures and the development of associated DMRB standards. John has focused his career on the strategic asset management of structures including development of structures policy, decision support tools and lifecycle planning. During his doctorate he studied how techniques from the systems, management and data science disciplines can be applied to transform infrastructure asset management. His doctorate included one of the biggest ever studies into the reliability of visual inspection data for bridges. He applied cutting-edge data science techniques to deliver new insights from National Highways on assets data.

Duncan Gardner is a Social Impact Manager at Balfour Beatty, where he supports the development and delivery of initiatives that create lasting positive change in the communities where the company operates. With a strong focus on social impact, inclusion, and sustainability, Duncan works across major infrastructure projects to ensure that local people and places benefit from meaningful employment, skills development, and community engagement. He is passionate about building partnerships that drive long-term impact and align with Balfour Beatty’s commitment to responsible business. Following the success of a pilot 'Ukrainian Construction Academy' in Edinburgh, Duncan, in partnership with Capital City Partnership, secured £243,000 from the CITB Industry Impact Fund to launch Scottish Pathways to Construction, an initiative aimed at supporting underrepresented groups into construction careers.
