Eddie Crouch has been Chair of the British Dental Association (BDA) Principal Executive Committee since September 2020. Before that, he served as Deputy Chair between 2014 and 2020 and past Chair of Central Counties Branch of the British Dental Association. He works in two practices in Birmingham and is Vice Chair of the Birmingham Local Dental Committee.

Dr Derby is a multi award-winning dentist with an interest in aesthetic restorative dentistry. She is the clinical director and owner of Chapel Dental, a private practice in Buckinghamshire. She is the past president of the British Association of Private Dentistry. She graduated in 2010 from the University of Manchester where she was awarded the Undergraduate Student of the Year. In 2020 she passed her MSc in Endodontics with distinction and achieved her PG Cert in Orthodontics in 2022. She was awarded the Young Dentist of the Year in 2021 and in 2022 and Dentist of the Year in 2024. Dr Derby is the President of the British Association of Private Dentistry and currently serves on Board and Executive Committee.

Caroline Smith has been with the HireRight group for over 10 years and is Deputy General Counsel for HireRight’s International business (EMEA/APAC region). Caroline assists in the negotiation of contracts across the region and leads the International business compliance function advising on a range of issues including data protection and regulatory updates. Caroline is a UK qualified lawyer with over 18 years’ experience and prior to joining HireRight, she was with Herbert Smith LLP and Clyde & Co LLP working on a range of complex international corporate, corporate insolvency and commercial matters. Caroline earned her Master of Arts degree at the University of Saint Andrews and went on to study law at the College of Law in York earning the GDL and LPC postgraduate qualifications

Helen Kaney is Head of the Dental Division of MDDUS, a leading indemnity organisation. Helen qualified from Glasgow University in 1987 (BDS) and spent many years in general dental practice as well as working as a clinical assistant in conservative dentistry and prosthodontics at Glasgow Dental Hospital and at Guy’s Hospital in London. She developed an interest in law and ethics early in her career and studied law (LLB) and then trained and worked as a solicitor for a number of years, acting for doctors and dentists in clinical negligence claims, regulatory matters and FAIs (in Scotland) on the instructions of UK indemnity providers. Her first dentolegal role in 1999 was working for a large insurer in Surrey. Helen then completed an MBA in 2013 at Strathclyde Business School. She has significant experience in advising and assisting dentists in the UK and Ireland and in several international jurisdictions. Helen was a Fellow and an elected council member of the College of General Dentistry (formerly FGDP (UK)) for 6 years until Spring 2025. She joined MDDUS in July 2023 after working for 14 years for another UK based indemnity provider, latterly as Head of Dental Services, Scotland.
